Domains

Live email must come from a domain you have verified, so that mailbox providers can check it really comes from you. Postilon signs every email with your domain's own DKIM key.

Add a domain

Add it in the dashboard under Domains, or with the API:

curl https://api.postilon.com/v1/domains \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POSTILON_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "domain_name": "acme.com" }'

The response lists the DNS records to publish in dns_records.

DNS records

Type Name Value Purpose
TXT ps._domainkey.acme.com v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=… DKIM signature (RSA-2048 key, unique to your domain)
TXT acme.com v=spf1 include:spf.postilon.com ~all SPF: allows Postilon to send for the domain
CNAME bounces.acme.com feedback.postilon.com Return path for bounces
TXT _dmarc.acme.com v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:dmarc@acme.com; DMARC policy

If the domain already has an SPF record, add include:spf.postilon.com to it rather than publishing a second one: a domain can only have one SPF record. If it already has a DMARC record, keep yours.

Verify

After publishing the records, choose Verify in the dashboard or call:

curl -X POST https://api.postilon.com/v1/domains/dom_8hT2kLm9QpX4vZ7nR3sW/verify \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POSTILON_API_KEY"

The domain is verified once the DKIM and SPF records are found. DNS changes can take a while to spread; if dns_verification.mode is pending_dns_propagation, try again in a few minutes. The first domain a workspace verifies adds 3,000 free credits.

Tracking

Open and click tracking are on by default. Turn them off per domain in the dashboard or with PATCH /v1/domains/{id}:

{ "open_tracking_enabled": false, "click_tracking_enabled": false }

With open tracking, Postilon adds a 1×1 image to HTML emails; with click tracking, it rewrites links to pass through a redirect on track.postilon.com that records the click. Every email also carries one-click unsubscribe headers (List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post); recipients who unsubscribe are added to your suppression list.
